On Sunday 3rd May, I visited Ward 18 St John's Hospital for an operation to rectify damage to a finger badly injured on Saturday. All the staff were absolutely friendly and efficient. Staff met in the corridor (at a distance) were helpful in directions. The procedures were smooth and supportive. I was kept fully informed and made to feel at ease at all times. In particular the nursing staff on Ward 18 went beyond duty, phoning my partner , who had waited in the car park, to say I was out of theatre. Well done.

Was in for day surgery (Plastic Surgery ) circumstances dictated that I should remain overnight after having a couple of fingers amputated. I was extremely well cared for by staff that were attentive and pleasant at all times, including throughout the night, it's not often one can say a hospital stay was a pleasant experience as this was. A special mention must be given to the catering, the food was tasty and well prepared, I was well impressed with presentation of the meal on the plate, Thankyou to all the staff at St Johns

Took my daughter to accident and emergency as she was losing a lot of blood because of a nose bleed. My daughter suffers a lot with nose bleeds, I used to be the same they would just come on for no reason. However when we went into see the nurse for the first time, she asked my daughter four times if she had her finger up her nose or if she had picked it. ??? Talk about judgemental. It felt like we should have not come to hospital, the nurse's attitude towards us was shocking. I ended up saying I would take her to the doctor at the health centre and ended up leaving as we got told we would have to wait another couple of hours on top of the time we had to wait. Instead of moving the chairs closer and making the waiting room smaller in A & E, they are needing to spend the money and train their staff on people skills instead. This is not the first time I have had bad experiences with St John's Hospital, there has been a few incidents.

At my recent return appt, the consultant appeared not to know the reason for my visit, taking more interest in recent wisdom teeth removal. At the time of the initial surgery on my tongue last April, I was told 8 weeks for a full recovery, then 6 - 12 mths, now 18mths. The sensations I’m experiencing were put down to ‘probably a perception issue’ , I quote. Is he suggesting I’m attention seeking?

I gave the last question 3 stars because of the receptionist, the first person you are in contact with in A+E. She was grumpy and short had no sign of a smile. When you are in agony the last thing you want is to be faced with someone who doesn't care. Completely the opposite from Triage nurse who called me smiled and should empathy with my injury. Now I know A+E is not the easiest of places to be a receptionist, but civility cost nothing. St John's hospital is one of the best hospitals in Lothian and it's A+E superior to any I have been in.

Today I was taken into St Johns Hospital at Livingston, Ward 23, day bed unit, I can honestly say that the staff were absolutely first class, professional, caring, dignified and so knowledgable, I can’t praise them high enough, to the lovely kind girl cleaning the ward to the nurses and doctors, they were so lovely and made me feel so welcome and so much better when I left, WE as a nation need to get behind the NHS and give them the praise and support these hard working staff deserve. It’s 1st class patient care and some of the staff were working 12 hour shifts and were just as good at the end of the day as the Start. A huge round of applause to all and thank you

So tonight, the 13th of January, I have been to St. John’s hospital in Livingston to the out of hours department with my seven month old baby girl as advised by NHS 24. The experience was horrible and horrendous, I cannot find my words. The appointment was due at 8:10 pm and we ended waiting for an hour with a sick and wanting to sleep baby. Now, I know NHS is struggling with lack of staff, but babies should be given priority. I know that there were adult people waiting maybe before us, but babies should be seen as soon as possible, adult people can wait longer in these situations. What’s more annoying, no one came out to tell us something and we ended up leaving. After that, I received a phone call saying why we have left, if we can come back, but the doctor would see someone else first because we left, although we were in the car park, that’s absolutely pathetic. I said, thank you, but NO, my baby suffered enough, I will get her to GP. What’s more annoying it’s that a lady working the the out of hours department saw us leaving and showed us the right door, but she didn’t say nothing. What can I say, I don’t recommend to anyone!!!!

Was lied to either by receptionist , or nurse . Had emergency MRI on my back and was left sitting while in excruciating pain ( without being offered pain relief ) for over 5 hours , asked reception when i would be seen , when she went and enquired about it she told me they were looking at my results at that moment , then a nurse shouts my name and takes me through the doors leading to the cubicles and told me to sit and told me that my results weren't through yet and to take a seat again in the waiting room . This hospital is a joke and it seems that they are still lying about waiting times and more worryingly they are lying to patients faces and don't even look the slightest embarrassed when they are lying to your face . I would recommend when attending this hospital to take along someone that can verify the lies that they are telling you .

The actual care and treatment I received were fine, no major problems. My issue is the lack of parking facilities on arriving at the hospital, we circled looking for a space for over 30 minutes. The parking attendant was cross and very unhelpful, he instructed us to look for parking outwith the hospital grounds, it wasn't his problem that I would be unable to walk back. I was referred from Edinburgh and have limited mobility and fatigue , public transport for such a journey is impossible for me. I did not request patient transport as I am unable to sit for hours that these journeys take.
